Mariano Juaristi Mendizábal, better known by the nickname of Atano III, is considered by many to be the biggest pelotari of all time, since he completely dominated the individual hand modality for more than two decades (1926-1948).

Juan Bautista Azcárate Egaña, known as Mondragonés was a professional pelotari of the hand specialty.
Mondragones was considered by all as the best pelotari of the moment because for almost ten years, between 1917 and 1926, he had no rival in the manomanista tournament, winning all his rivals with his great touch. However, in 1926 the eruption of the phenomenon Atano III ended this supremacy.
The dispute of the title was made to the best of three matches. winning Atano III to his rival in the three by 22-19, 22-12 and 22-9.
